Project SPARTA: Empowering a Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics, Training, and Innovation
Project Smarter Philippines through Data Analytics, R&D, Training, and Adoption (SPARTA) was established in 2019 with the objective of implementing essential online education, research and development mechanisms, and infrastructure to support the growth of the Data Science and Analytics (DSA) industry and promote smart governance practices in the Philippines.
Led by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), in partnership with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), the Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP), and Coursebank, Project SPARTA aimed to provide training and certification to 30,000 Filipino learners through online learning. This program catered to professionals, college students, and senior high school students, enabling a wide range of individuals to benefit from the initiative.
To facilitate the learning process, Project SPARTA introduced six distinct learning pathways, each focusing on different aspects of data analytics and management:
- Data Steward
- Data Associate
- Data Analyst
- Analytics Manager
- Data Engineer
- Data Scientist
These pathways provided learners with specialized knowledge and skills, enabling them to pursue diverse careers within the field of data science and analytics.
Originally scheduled to conclude on November 14, 2022, Project SPARTA accomplished its primary objectives of introducing the Data Science and Analytics (DSA) industry and promoting smart governance practices to thousands of Filipinos during its active period. By establishing a strong foundation for the industry and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making, the project significantly contributed to the development of a smarter Philippines, equipped with enhanced data analytics capabilities and smart governance practices.
